Princess Reema bin Bandar bin Sultan has been crowned Arab Sport Personality of the year in recognition of her work in levelling the playing field for women in Saudi Arabia.
The royal has long been an advocate of greater equality in the Kingdom and she played an integral role in the lifting of the ban on women in Saudi sports stadiums last month.
And at the ninth annual Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Creative Sports Awards, she was crowned Arab Sports Personality of the Year for her efforts.
“It means a lot to me and my fellow countrywomen, and it encourages us to work even harder for our nation,” the Princess said of her award.
Having also worked to secure licences for female-only gyms in Saudi Arabia, Princess Reema became the first woman to take on a key sporting leadership roles when she was named president of the Saudi Federation for Community Sports earlier this year.
