Three of the best golf courses in the world are to be found in the United Arab Emirates, according to online golf booking platform Golfscape.

This includes the newly-opened Dubai Hills Golf Club, which has a clear view of the Burj Khalifa and ranks at number 36 on the list.

The golf course was designed by Gary Johnston and European Golf Design and developed by Emaar Properties, opening in November last year.

The spacious 18-hole course is located 15 minutes from downtown Dubai and features lakes, wadis and desert-like features.

Johnston explained: “The golf course design evolved to create three subtly different landscape characters.”

Higher up the list is the Yas Links Golf Club in Abu Dhabi, at number 15, while the highest-ranked UAE course on the list is the iconic Emirates Golf Club Majlis Course in Dubai.

The Majlis Golf Course at the Emirates Golf Club is ranked 13th on the list

The course was designed by Karl Litten and was the first grass golf course in the Middle East when it opened in 1988.

The Majlis Course hosts the Omega Dubai Desert Classic every January and ranks as the 13th-best golf course in the world, according to the Golfscape list.

The top course on the list is the Old Course at St Andrews in Scotland.
