The first ever Arab Women’s Sports Tournament (AWST) will be a reflection of “the spirit of Sharjah”, according to the chief of the organising committee.

The much anticipated AWST takes place in the emirate from February 2-12, 2018, with the event promising to showcase some of the Arab world’s foremost sporting talent.

And Sheikh Khalid bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, head of the Supreme Organising Committee, insists everything is on track for a successful launch.

“There is a tremendous joint effort by all those involved to make sure the AWST is an event that meets very highest standards of world class competition,” Sheikh Khalid said.

“The collaboration across the board with private institutions and the focus of a common goal for success will make this tournament a benchmark for women’s sport around the region and beyond.

“This teamwork and these relationships are an excellent reflection of the spirit of Sharjah in coming together to achieve its aspirations and increase its ambitions.”

The event in Sharjah is set to stand out for its focus on sustainability; all communications will be digital only and the small amount of printed materials used will come from recycled paper.
