Emirates and Lyon have announced a five-year partnership, that will see the world’s largest airline become the Ligue 1 club’s official main sponsor starting from the 2020-21 season.

The partnership will see the airline’s “Fly Better” logo appear on Lyon’s training and playing kits for all the clubs matches, in addition to this, the club’s Groupama Stadium will display Emirates branding.

Emirates Group Chairman and Chief Executive, His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum is delighted with the new partnership which will see the airline receive hospitality, ticketing and marketing rights.

“With Olympique Lyonnais, we’ve found a partner that mirrors our “Fly Better” brand promise of striving to achieve the highest levels of success, and there is already a connection between Lyon and Dubai with Emirates’ daily flights between both cities.

“This partnership is more than just a commercial deal, but also reinforces Emirates’ investment and economic contribution to both the Lyon region, and France as a whole, a country where we have been present for nearly three decades.”

Lyon have won 21 trophies in their history and the club are currently participating in the Champions League for its 23rd consecutive year.

Jean-Michel Aulas has been the club’s president since 1987, and he believes their partnership with Emirates will open new doors and bring in success for OL.

In 2012, Emirates was the first airline to connect Lyon to the Middle East through its direct flights to the French city.
