Partner organisations to the Gulf Bank 642 Marathon in Kuwait have been announced.
The event will be sponsored by Kuwait Airways and the Kuwait Red Crescent Society are an official partner.
The marathon takes place at Souq Sharq on 17 November. As well as the 42km full marathon, there are also 21km, 10km and 5m races.
As the official partner of the event, Kuwait Red Crescent Society will be collecting donations at the marathon site and online in the run-up to the event.
The money raised will help people who cannot afford medical treatment in Kuwait.
Ahmed Al Amir, a spokesperson of Gulf Bank, said: “Each year, the ‘Gulf Bank 642 Marathon’ partners with a leading organization to raise awareness for a worthy cause.”
The Kuwait Red Crescent Society will spend the money on devices such as pacemakers, hearing aids and wheelchairs.
Al Amir continued: “It is our honour to aid a local campaign that assists individuals in need of medication or healthcare, including those suffering from chronic diseases and disabilities.
“We thank you for your support and hope that this initiative will provide a platform to inspire individuals to support a notable cause that leads to the creation of a more empowered society.”
The Kuwait Red Crescent Society is part of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.
Resource Mobilization Director Lama Al Othman said: “We are thrilled with Gulf Bank’s decision to collaborate with the Kuwait Red Crescent Society for this year’s Gulf Bank 642 Marathon.
“The marathon will raise national awareness of the cause, as well as assist us in our goal of providing medical aid to those who need it the most.”
The partnership has also received the approval of Kuwait Airways, which has been named as a gold sponsor of the marathon.
A Kuwait Airways spokesperson, Fayez Al-Enezi, said: “We are proud to be lending our support and sponsorship to an event that raises awareness of the benefits of a healthy lifestyle as well as much-needed funds for Kuwait Red Crescent Society.”
It will be the fourth edition of the Gulf Bank 642 Marathon, so called because of the 642 muscles in the human body.
The full and half marathons, as well as the 10km race, are all internationally accredited and form a key part of Kuwait’s sporting calendar. Last year’s event attracted 6,000 runners.
